Wanda Gustafson, Obituary

Wanda Gustafson
January 15, 1943 – January 21, 2007
Wanda was born to Earl and Wilma Beshers on January 15, 1943, in the town of El Centro, California. The family moved to Riverside, California, where she was raised. Wanda was married to Curt Gustafson on May 6, 1961 and they had three children, a daughter, Kathy, and two sons, Curtis, and Keith. Wanda was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her children bore children of their own and grandchildren. Wanda is survived by all of them. The most important things to her in life were her love of God and her family.
Wanda was an organizer and an encourager. She was creative and always happy. She was a pastor and teacher. Her childhood dream was to become a missionary. In 1976 she became a Sunday School Minister. She packed a school bus with parents and children for two years and had over a hundred children in Sunday school. The most meaningful highlight of her life was when God fulfilled her dream and sent her to Douglas, Arizona, as a missionary with her husband Curt. While there, she helped build an orphanage in Naco, Mexico for the little impoverished children there. On the other side of the border, in Douglas, she started the Mountain View Christian School with the Atkinson’s. The first year Wanda began with just pre-school children, but over the years it grew through grade twelve. She taught in the Christian school faithfully and led many young people to the Lord during that time. She later helped pastor the church in Douglas with her husband Curt. While in Douglas, Wanda influenced all three of their children to move there and she was able to help all of them with a closer walk in the Lord. In 2001, Wanda moved with her husband Curt to Phoenix where they helped the Atkinson’s who where starting charter schools at the time. Wanda became a faithful teacher and the spiritual counselor for staff and students alike. She helped with her husband Curt to lead many young people to the Lord and assist them with many of the trials they were going through in life. During the last few years of her life she helped the Atkinson’s develop the Mountain View Christian Home School program. She helped home school students with their curriculum, and led many of them to the Lord as well as some parents. She also encouraged them to achieve their goals and dreams. An incredible panoramic painting covering the wall of the Mountain View School office is still there as a lasting testimony to Wanda’s painting skills and her vision for young people.
In 1996 Wanda was diagnosed with cancer and given only two years to live, but God extended her life for 11 more years with perfect health, until it was time to take her home to heaven. While in the hospital last year she led many to the Lord, including her nurse, who knelt at her bed and invited Jesus into her heart! Wanda’s greatest passion in life was being a SOUL WINNER. Soul winners will “shine like the stars forever and ever.” Daniel 12:3
