I had one of the greatest experiences ever! At least a dozen gray whales swam by my house in Lincoln City, Oregon. The whales were migrating so close to the beach that I couldn't believe it! They were spouting right before where the breakers start coming into shore. For the first time in my life I watched a whale do a complete breach! It came out of the water and slowly made an arch dive like a porpoise. It sort of hung in the air for a moment before plunging down into the water again. It had to be one of the most incredible sights I have ever witnessed! I watched them out of my bedroom window for at least 20 minutes showing their heads, backs, or tails, before they left to the deeper ocean and out of sight. I thank God for allowing me to have this incredible experience once in my lifetime!!

Hello,
I work for the Lincoln City Visitor and Convention Bureau, and we're always looking for photos of memorable moments. I was wondering perhaps if you got any photos?
Thanks,

Thanks for contacting me. I wish I had been able to get photos, but I didn't have my camera in the house when I saw the whales. I am better prepared this time. I never dreamed that I would see whales come into such shallow water. It is near the Chinook Winds Casino. If I can be of further service, please let me know. Thanks again,
Dr. Atkinson
